Durian Boy is a story about a very special child and his struggle to mature in a world where the differences between city and village life threaten to make everyone forget their true nature.
Kadu is a mystery child. He just appeared one magical evening in the orchard of Abah and Sri. They have been married for years but sadly have never been able to conceive a child of their own.
Rumours and stories about Abahs enchanted durian orchard arouse the curiosity of many and the ambitions of others.
While it’s true that durians from Abah’s plantation have the reputation of being the best tasting durian in the world, some feel that this land is blessed by the Gods with special powers.
A foreign petroleum company’s testing equipment leads them to the very tree that Kadu was rumoured to have been born from.
When the oil company starts drilling, the villagers fight with the city people and the ensuing commotion disturbs a sleeping monster who lives deep under the village.
When the monster awakens and threatens to destroy the entire world, only Kadu can rescue them all.
But will he? Can he?
Durian Boy is an original story by veteran animation artist Dermot Walshe and Indonesian artist-creator Erwin Budiono. It has been conceived as a sensibly-budgeted 3D CG animated feature film with plans to evolve into a continuing TV Series at a later date.
